Applications invited for the second Spring School on CO2 Geological Storage. An intensive one-week course for PhD students and post-docs with an interest in CO2 storage. The course will be held 23 – 29th May 2019 at Hontomin, Spain. Application deadline 3rd January.

The British Geological Survey is calling for members of the science community to get in touch with their requests for samples from the first UK Geoenergy Observatories boreholes.

This call covers:

  1. Core and core barrel fluid samples preserved for geomicrobiology studies from borehole GGC01 drilled at Dalmarnock in late 2018
  2. Core material from borehole GGC01 drilled at Dalmarnock in late 2018. Approved requests will access the core via a sampling party at BGS Keyworth in Autumn 2019 (date TBC)
  3. Cuttings (rock chip) material from mine water and environmental boreholes to be drilled at GGERFS01, 02, 03, 05 Cuningar Loop in 2019. The material is likely to be available from late Autumn 2019
  4. Groundwater samples and geomicrobiology filter samples from the Cuningar Loop mine water and environmental baseline boreholes taken at the same time as the BGS monthly sampling round until March 2020
  5. Surface water samples taken at the same time as the BGS monthly sampling round until March 2020
  6. Pre-drill soil geomicrobiology samples

BGS Open Day 2013

Save the day! The British Geological Survey at Keyworth are planning an open day on Saturday 12 October 2019.

Celebrating Earth Science Week, the open day will follow the international theme of 'Geoscience is for everyone', emphasising the importance of the geosciences in the lives of all people.

The day will comprise of lots of hands-on activities, talks and tours to demonstrate the new technology and data we use to deliver world-leading research, in sensing, understanding and predicting the Earth’s behaviour.
